Patchwork & Quilting - January 2018 (Issue 288)

Product Description

Wow, 2017 was a bit of a whirlwind! A bit of a blur too if I’m honest. We certainly packed a lot into P&Q over the last year. But now we look forward to a new year, perhaps a time to learn new skills, to try something new; tackle hand appliqué for the first time, or maybe learn to relax in front of your sewing machine and start machine quilting? However experienced a quilter is, there is always something new to learn. I think it’s what makes our love of this craft so appealing, and addictive! If you are looking to try new skills then Betty Croke’s Mushroom Village series quilt might be for you as it will combine several different techniques over the next six issues. Our cover quilt features the lovely bright Ombré Geese quilt which is foundation pieced. If you prefer more traditional piecing, you will love Chris Franses’ Black and White Tiles Quilt. How many of us have been inspired by tiled floors everywhere we go? The Handmade Spools Quilt combines delightful haberdashery inspired fabrics with the traditional Spools block while the Jigsaw Quilt involves simple piecing and appliqué. Finally I think no sewing room is complete without a Stitchin’ Time Cushion! I was lucky enough to escape the computer for the day to visit Kaffe Fassett’s Colour at Mottisfont exhibition in Hampshire, while at the opposite end of the country, Joanna O’Neill reviews the Scottish Quilt Championships held recently in Edinburgh. We have an update on the Jane Austen Community Quilt Project, find out more about longarm quilting with Greenhill and discover the story behind a patchwork skirt in A Splash of Colour in a Bleak Grey World. Sandie Lush tells us about her First and Last quilts and we meet Newent Quilters in Introducing. Happy Quilting!
